Every winter, North Lake Tahoe transforms into a snowy playground, and at the heart of this frosty fun is SnowFest!, a ten-day celebration that has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 1982. As the festival approaches its 43rd year, the anticipation for new memories and traditions continues to grow.Our annual winter festival and fundraiser runs from February 26 to March 9, 2025, and features over fifty mountain-town events and the only firework display in North Lake Tahoe.

Origins

The origins of SnowFest! trace back to the early 1980s, when North Lake Tahoe locals sought to boost winter tourism. In 1981, a proposed winter carnival was imagined to highlight Tahoe’s exceptional March weather and skiing conditions, and in 1982, the inaugural SnowFest! took place. The first festival was modest, featuring snow sculptures, ski races, and a parade through Tahoe City. Despite its small scale, it captivated both locals and visitors, laying the foundation for an enduring annual tradition.
